About the Lab
Prof. Morii and his team of postdocs and students have searched for supersymmetry, for dark matter, and for rare processes involving top quarks.
What Research Looks Like
Students go to CERN for about 8 weeks and do a combination of benchwork and coding, supervised by a graduate student.
Example Undergraduate Projects
- Worked at CERN on upgrade of the silicon tracking detector for the ATLAS experiment
- Helped PhD students in data analysis
Prerequisites & Skills
Physics 15a/b/c + 143A are important. Basic programming skills (Python or C++) are very useful. Familiarity with lab equipment (taught in Physics 113, 123, or 191R) is helpful but optional.
Before You Reach Out
What you can do at CERN depends a lot on what is happening at the LHC. Next few years (until 2030) will be an upgrade period when the accelerator is off and hardware work will dominate.
Where Students Go After
Most go to graduate schools and pursue PhD in physics.
